History & cultural connections

The history of Park Hyatt Paris-Vendôme

Jeanne Paquin and her husband, Isidore Paquin, opened the Paquin couture house at 3 rue de la Paix in 1891. Jeanne Paquin designed the clothes and Isidore Paquin ran the business. The house closed in 1956.[1][2]

Hyatt describes the hotel's façade as the former couture house of Paquin. The Paris guide Sortiraparis reports that Paquin occupied both number 3 and number 5 rue de la Paix. The hotel's official address today is number 5.[3][4]

After the fashion house closed, the buildings were used for shops and offices. Hyatt opened the hotel in August 2002. The American designer Ed Tuttle joined several Haussmann-style buildings into a single hotel behind their street façades and designed the interiors.[4][5]

In 2011 the French government named Park Hyatt Paris-Vendôme one of the first eight hotels to receive the official Palace distinction, which is reserved for a small number of five-star hotels.[3]
