The book

Who they are in the book
Spoiler-freeFräulein Bürstner is a young typist who rents a room in Frau Grubach’s boardinghouse. The arrest takes place in her room without her knowledge. Josef later reenacts the scene, becomes physically intrusive, and kisses her without consent. She distances herself from him, and Josef glimpses a woman who may be Bürstner shortly before his execution; Kafka leaves the identification uncertain.
