Spoiler-freeDr. Atro is an elderly and highly honored Urrasti physicist who has corresponded with Shevek for years. He sincerely respects Shevek’s scientific mind but is also a nationalist who wants A-Io to defeat its rivals. His warmth shows that personal generosity can coexist with political beliefs Shevek finds dangerous. Atro remains at the university when Shevek escapes, and his later response to the open release of the theory is not shown.
